In 1970, the Central Tech Board and Administration set out to develop a quality truck driver training program. They felt it should be the mission of at least one area vo-tech school in Oklahoma to focus part of its efforts and resources toward serving one of the state's largest industries - the trucking industry.

In 1988, legislative leaders devised a way to fund the expansion and upgrading of the Truck Driver Training Program at Drumright, ...determined to make it "second to none" in the nation. The Board, Administration, and Staff of Central Tech responded by adding the latest equipment and teaching techniques as well as expanding the on-campus driving range.

The Philosophy
There is no such thing as an overqualified truck driver.

News
News spreads fast. Industry recruiters responded by snapping up Central Tech graduates as fast as they could be trained. Today, the school has a placement rate of 98 percent and a reputation for turning out professional, employable trainees.

Applicants
Central Tech believes in being every bit as thorough as employers. After all, why train a student who can't be employed after graduation? Each applicant must undergo an application process, a DOT physical examination, and a motor vehicle record check before being selected.

Central Tech graduates are well prepared for over-the-road driving. Upon graduation, most students have logged 400 or more miles on the road. They have their commercial driver's license. And on the back of their certificates is a list of competencies, complete with comments, outlining their proficiencies in 20 separate major skill and academic categories.
